Ability to choose which data center to spawn an instance in
Currently I have clients in ORD1 and I am in DFW1. No local traffic between the two... I need to have the ability to specify which Data Center my cloud instances spawn in.
Also, as we get bigger, it'd be awesome to choose which data centers to spawn in so that we are not centrally geo-located.
We plan to implement this feature in the future.

Any updates to this? I think this is probably the most important feature that you don't have by far.

Any news on this? I asked support about this years a go about this and still nothing? I dont think you understand what cloud is. Your falling behind your competition big time and you know it. As time goes on Rackspace Cloud falls more and more behind. I mean come on look at what others are offering now and then look at Rackspace. Rackspace is so slow and getting things done just look at the things on here that takes years to go anywhere. Rackspace has many employees but im guessing 99.9% of staff are sales staff.

Had to make a new account and server just to move to other data-center. Doesn't look right to me.

Did not find out about the lack of choice of which datacenter until I signed up, what a waste of my timei. I am sticking to gogrid, they atleast allow choice between east and west coast.

Woah! I was about to choose Rackspace Cloud as the infrastructure of choice and when I was testing the creation of the instances I just found this! A MAJOR showstopper.
Please fix this ASAP! It's just a "simple dropdown" when creating the instance! :-/

We used to be able to share images between DFW and ORD, and ask the support guys to switch us. Now even this is not possible, and we're waiting 3 days to launch a server from image, but it's failing :(

Seems like rackspace is ignoring this request which really is the whole point in cloud computing isn't it?

Multiple data centres and no way to choose where the servers go? Rackspace cloud servers is kinda useless without this...

My sites target European people, so it'd be nice to be closer to them!

I agree with Steve. More data centres and the option to pick which one is used. Also add another UK data centre. I know you have two in the UK but only use one of them (Slough I think) for cloud severs. Adding the other would mean that we could use a different data centre for failover and distribution and still be in the UK.
Also would be good to add your Hong Kong data centre to cloud servers and the other US data centres (San Antonio/TX, Herndon/VA and Ashburn/VA). Other cloud providers seem to be expanding to other counties also with well known providers now offing in Japan and the Netherlands.
Please dont get left behind Rackspace feel free to expand cloud servers to other countries :-)

+1. It would be great if we did not have to use a separate Rackspace account for each data center.

Would be good to know progress on this.

Yes we would also like to be able to choose datacenter. You can do it in Amazon Cloud so why not in Rackspace Cloud?

This would be nice. I'd like to specify Europe due to EU data protection laws.

That or allow routing of local traffic between data centers.. to do this though they would all need separate subnets, I can't answer that as I'm only in ORD1.
